SA Wet Lab for CICO Instructor Course

This one-day course provides candidates with the knowledge and skills required to teach other clinicians how to manage the Can’t Intubate, Can’t Oxygenate (CICO) scenario. Though targeted at anaesthetists of all grades, it will be of value to practitioners from any critical or emergency care background. Candidates must have a minimum experience level of ATY2 (4th year of training). The course is rigorous, and includes summative assessment. Successful candidates will meet the required standard and pass all aspects of the course. This format is unique in South Australia, and is based on the long-standing Royal Perth Hospital CICO Rescue Instructor Certification Course.

Human Factors/ Crisis Management - WA ACE Lecture Series

Our local weapon of a HF anaesthetics expert is an anaesthetist working at FSH with an interest in human factors. He has worked with prehospital and emergency teams across the globe where optimisation of human factors has been critical to successful management of critically injured and ill patients. He teaches human factors to clinicians to enhance outcomes for unwell patients. If you are interested in attending the case based discussion on the 21st of May, please submit cases where human factors have been sub optimal. Please highlight what factors you believe contributed to the issues, the more details the better. The cases will be de identified to protect confidentiality of patients and clinicians. A suggested framework for optimising human factors will be proposed and discussion had amongst the assembled clinicians. The CPD for this event falls under Category 1 Practice evaluation • reviewing performance, case conferencing.
