Suitable for: Anaesthesia trainees BTY1 & above, Anaesthesia consultants, Anaesthesia nurses Prerequisites: NIL Location: HNE Simulation Centre, John Hunter Hospital Campus Aim To provide an introduction to thoracic anaesthesia for trainees and a refresher in thoracic anaesthesia for consultants & nursing staff Content This half day workshop is designed for the generalist anaesthetist who occasionally encounters thoracic anaesthesia, particularly in after-hours or urgent setting. Topics include lung isolation (with emphasis on choosing the best airway device); lung protective strategies; managing hypoxia on one lung; analgesic strategies; DLT placement, (including in difficult airway, and on right side); bronchoscopy training; and bronchial blocker use Anaesthetic assistants seeking to familiarise themselves with equipment and the sequences involved in establishing lung isolation are encouraged to attend with medical colleagues For more information, contact the HNE Simulation Centre.
